The massive 7-inch touch-screen on Archos’ 705 WiFi makes it far less portable than the other media players we’ve seen, unless cargo pants or overalls are still an integral part of your wardrobe. But if you’re down to lug this monster around, you’ll reap both its

big-screen benefits and deftly implemented wireless functionality. Download new movies from CinemaNow from a Wi-Fi hotspot, or connect to any network to stream or download files directly to the player

The 7in touchscreen is bright and sharp with an adequate 640×480-pixel resolution. It delivers impressive picture quality too – we noticed some image break-up, but for the screen size it looks excellent.
With 160 GB of built-in memory, the Archos 705 Wi-Fi portable media player lets you surf, stream, download, and record movies for easy playback on its crystal clear 800 x 480 7-inch full-color touchscreen. With its Wi-Fi capabilities, the 705 Wi-Fi connects to the Internet for surfing the Web, accessing e-mail, and watching Web-based videos wherever you go. Its Opera Browser plug-in puts Adobe Flash support on your Archos, which enables access to and use of Dailymotion and other Web video sites on your Archos device. You can even view and post YouTube videos wherever you have a wireless connection and your Archos.

Selling on the Archos online store for 399.98 Euros. There is some difference between the 704 and the 705, one of which is the new improved user interface. Otherwise, it’s the same old solid PMP with a 7-inch. The 705 also boots up faster, according to Archoslounge, which has published a detailed review.

Here is a summary:
browsing experience easier with a responsive virtual keyboard
operating system boots up in a few seconds
touchscreen is less prone to smudges, which makes viewing videos a pleasure
easy zooming, forward and backward, drag and drop interface and subtitles all work very well
multitasking: listen to music while browsing pictures (standard in many PMP brand these days)
The good: The Archos 705 WiFi is a portable video player with a gigantic screen, killer audio, video, and photo format support, an attractive user interface, Flash games, wireless movie rentals, and one of the best Web browsers on a mobile device. Unlike other Archos models, the 705 WiFi includes a QWERTY keypad remote control, built-in AV output, and USB device hosting.

The bad: The Archos 705 WiFi is just too big for daily use. It’s also heavy, the screen resolution could be sharper, there’s no tactile control for volume, and the Web browser costs extra.

The bottom line: Archos 705 WiFi is the biggest, baddest PVP on the market. What you get in screen size, however, you pay for in portability and picture quality.

Specs: Device type: Digital AV recorder; Dimensions (WxDxH): 7.2 in x 0.8 in x 5 in; Display type: TFT 7 in - Color
