sony s610 reviews

Sony’s name has been synonymous with Portable Music from the beginning. In the ‘80’s when
cassette tapes were the popular medium, the Sony Walkman was the leading audio cassette player. As the music industry transitioned from analog to digital, Sony led the way with
their Discman line of CD players. Although CD’s are still widely used today, we are no doubt
in the MP3 era. The only difference this time is the company atop the portable music leader board.
The S610 Walkman series is one of Sony’s first portable media devices to support video
playback. Available in 2GB (S615F), 4GB (S616F), and 8GB (S618F) capacities, the flash
player is also among the company’s new generation of products that finally embrace an “open
format” by shunning both SonicStage and ATRAC, its proprietary audio codec, in favor of
Windows-based drag-and-drop and syncing with Windows Media Player.
Sony’s S610 is their low man on the totem pole in the new line of video flash players
sporting 2, 4, and 8GB capacities. This is last year’s model but Sony has decided to keep it
around to accompany the newer 2.4” screened Bluetooth players. But don’t let the “last
year’s model” deter you from purchasing.

The good: The Sony NWZ-S610 series features a compact design with a high-quality feel and an ample screen. The user interface is intuitive, and there are plenty of features to choose
from, such as an FM radio and photo and video playback. No more awful SonicStage software:
this Walkman is a PlaysForSure device supporting subscription tracks as well as unprotected
WMA, MP3, and even AAC files. The player offers good sound quality and an excellent rated
battery life.
The bad: The Sony NWZ-S610 series doesn’t offer any exceptional new technology, and there are cheaper competitors that offer the same features.
The bottom line: The Sony NWZ-S610 series Walkman doesn’t bring anything striking or new to the table, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a quality MP3 player with nice extras
and a killer battery life. Plus, Sony got rid of SonicStage–the best news ever.
