The Zen Vision W is slightly larger than the Archos (notably a quarter-inch thicker), but since neither device is exactly pocketable, the size difference is negligible. Unlike theArchos 604, the Vision W has dedicated volume buttons on the top edge. The mono speaker in the lower right corner puts out enough sound to be used at home. What are the differences? Music-centric players like the iPod and Zune are small, use proprietary syncing software and music services that makes it easy to load your player with music (once you learn the software but that’s not hard), may not mount as a removable hard disk for quick file copying (in the case of Zune) and have lovely color displays that are too small for extended bouts of video-watching. These players are perfect for the pocket, are easy to use and while they can play video, they are intended primarily for music playback.Even better, the device comes with either a 30GB or 60GB hard drive and a bright 4.3″ LCD screen, a screen that’s exactly the same size as the one on the Sony PSP. But the PSP, as every owner knows and complains about, it only works with SD memory cards and unless you want to pay lots and lots of money, the max reasonably priced memory card is only 2GB. I don’t know about you, but my movies are typically 700-800MB in size, which means that I get two movies on a card and I constantly have to manage all the files.

The good: Beautiful wide-screen display; durable design; intuitive interface; holds up to
60GB; supports wide array of video formats; plays FM radio; supports TiVo To Go and limited
movie downloads; syncs with Outlook; removable battery; CompactFlash slot is nice for
photographers; good value for a wide-screen PVP.
The bad: Bulky body that’s just a tad heavy; no line-in audio or video recording; no
kickstand; TiVo To Go requires file conversion and third-party MPEG-2 decoder.
The bottom line: The bulky but easy-to-use Creative Zen Vision W and its nice screen will
dazzle video lovers who don’t require video recording.
